The cry of the ages, “What must I do to be saved?” That’s been the cry of every civilization and yet, all have gone under. That’s the cry of education. Yes, that’s the cry of the denomination. More than that, it’s the cry of a diseased and a decayed human race.
The Bible is surely not silent on the importance of the mind. It is not silent on what we believe, what we think, and what we eat…our soul, mind, and body.
At age 24, I stood in a courtroom facing my eighth felony charge. I stared at the floor as the State of Texas recommended that I receive a 20-year prison sentence for forging thousands of prescriptions to obtain drugs. I had grown up in a home with alcoholic parents that was darkened by severe violence and horrific abuse.
Sorrow is a universal experience for the human race. Since sorrow and trouble is a universal experience, then there must be provided a universal remedy, and we must look to the Savior and to the Scriptures for this remedy.
But for the grace of God and Bible conviction that has constantly mounted for ten years, I would with fear and trembling pick up my pen to write this book. I make no claims to enticing words of men’s wisdom, but trust that in the demonstration of the Spirit and power, I may write a very practical and helpful book.
As in everything, the Bible is the final authority for or against any subject. Fasting is no exception.
The greatest message of the Bible and the theme of the whole Bible is grace. Grace is the free and unmerited favor of God, and there is an unbreakable relationship between law and grace. With that in mind, I will present myself as the sinner in this story because “all have sinned and come short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23).
God’s business has never been a popular business, but it is a very necessary business. Truth and the man who preaches it always run at least fifty years ahead of the reception committee and of its acceptance. I would like to give you some false notions that people and the world have about the preacher’s business.
Faith lives in a high tower. Paul said to the church at Ephesus, “Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.”
Since the beginning of recorded history, one of the most faithfully recorded topics has been religion. This testifies to the fact that there is within man something that leads him, regardless of geographical location, to a quest for something to worship.
The thing that has impressed me most in the thirteenth chapter as I’ve restudied it is that love “beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things.” Love never faileth!
It’s hard to get much done unless you are willing to get in the ditch with the man who needs to get out! Dear friend, the Lord has called every Christian into the ministry of rescuing the perishing.
Good character doesn’t come from the first birth. Did it ever dawn on you that no baby was ever born with one stitch of character? The little rascals have no more conviction than a dead possum. They have no respect for Mother and Daddy. Human babies come into this world with absolutely no character. None! It’s natural to do wrong.
